Inspiring creativity in children through the natural world in Randolph College Nursery school’s 5K Program

Hello-

I’m Ashton! I am an intern at the Randolph College Nursery school! I work with a unique group of children in the 5K program. This program is for preschool age students that get the opportunity to use the outdoors as a classroom. This class focuses on a non-traditional method of learning through nature outside of the classroom. Students get to go outside and discover the world giving them a more organic class structure. We believe that play and exploration is the best way of learning!

This blog is here to show how our students learn and what activities they engage in from day to day!

Come and take a peek inside of our classroom!

Philosophy and Mission

We believe that the learning patterns and attitudes a child develops the first six years of life are the ones that guide future learning and behaviors.
Because we believe that children learn best when they:

  • Have a positive self image
  • Feel respected and valued as individuals
  • Are allowed to develop at their own rate
  • Actively explore their world
  • Are given time to construct meaning
  • Make choices
  • Ask questions
  • Solve problems
  • Feel safe enough
  • Know they are loved
  • Play
